Awards Evening Celebration

The annual Lower School celebration evening always means that the Academy’s Main Hall is packed with students, their families and staff, all looking forward to the awarding of certificates, rewards and trophies to some of our hardest working students.

Before taking their seats in the Hall, all our visitors were able to enjoy a colourful display of work in the foyer comprising of examples of fascinating and imaginative pieces by students in Creative Media, Art, Textiles and Design Technology.

This year’s guest who presented the prizes was Air Marshal Christopher Nickols. Chris is the newest member of our Academy Council, and he spoke with the students about his distinguished career in the Royal Air Force, which eventually saw him secure the position of Assistant Chief of Defence Staff (Operations) and Chief of Defence Intelligence; although because of the officials secrets act he was unable to divulge any stories from this period of his career! Chris then went on to offer all students some words of advice; most notably about working hard and aiming high!

He then helped Mr Feldwick present the awards. As well as subject awards for students from year 7 – 9, there were Enrichment and Chapter awards for outstanding students who have made significant contributions to their Chapters.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of 3 very special awards:

The Woodard Board prize, awarded for the most significant contribution to the Christian ethos of the Academy went to Joshua Webb – Year 7

The winner of the Trevor Pearless Award for great endeavour and resolution was Ami Lee – Year 7.

Boglarka Babrian – Year 9 was the very worthy recipient of the Oakwood Shield for Academic Achievement.

Interspersed with the awards were musical items from three very talented vocalists; Lee Bradley – Year 10, Amylia Kellick – Year 9 and Mollie Sunnucks – Year 9.

Congratulations go to all of this year’s worthy award winners.
