PROM 2018

The Maidstone Hilton hotel provides a lovely atmospheric backdrop for one of the major events in the Academy’s calendar. It’s an evening of very mixed emotions as we say goodbye and good luck to our year 11 students as they head out into the world on to the next chapter in their life.

As usual, there were a variety of fantastic cars, old and new, that were used to ferry the students to the hotel and this was followed by thirty minutes of frantic group photo opportunities around the venue’s entrance before everyone was invited in for the dinner. There was a special meal for all the guests with an in house disco to allow plenty of opportunity to show off sharp dance moves!

Staff and students mingled throughout the evening sharing memories of Academy life over the last 5 years but undoubtedly the major highlight was the year 11 students dressed up to the nines in their amazing dresses and suits. There were the most incredibly beautiful and colourful evening dresses being modeled and sharp suits, waistcoats, polished shoes and even some bow ties!

During the dinner, students voted for some special awards for individual students. These were given out by Mr Mason who had organised the event together with his student Prom committee who took care of every detail of the night, even down to the superb table decorations.  As usual, his speech was delivered with his usual touch of wit which was much appreciated by all present. However, this part of the evening was also held a moment of sadness as Mr Mason announced that this was to be his final Academy Prom as he is off to a new school in September. We all wish him good luck and we hope that they will appreciate him as much as we all  - staff and students - have done for so many years.

Finally, tearful goodbyes were exchanged and the now ex-year 11s were off to begin a new chapter in life. We hope that they will keep us informed of the future exciting events in their lives.
