GCSE Exam successes

St Augustine Academy students had been nervously queuing up outside the front door of the Academy for half an hour before they were let in to collect their exam results this morning. As envelopes were opened smiles broke out with the occasional delighted scream & tears of joy that all their hard work had been rewarded with a clutch of successful results. The highest scoring students were Phoebe Ponton whose results included  two Grade 9s and two Grade 7s and Jack Malone who achieved two 8s and five 7s with Ethan Lane also gaining a clutch of excellent results.

The Academy was delighted that around half of the cohort achieved a standard pass or above in English and Maths in this first year of the new GCSE exam grading system. Following on from the second Ofsted ‘Good’ for the Academy earlier this year, these results are also a continual improvement on the results from the previous year. Vice Principal, Paul Brown, said: “we’re always delighted to see that students’ hard work has paid off and that they can go on, well prepared, into the next stage of their education. A big thank you is also due to the hard work and support from all our staff, especially with a new system of grading this year, to ensure that students have gained the qualifications to enable them to take up their places in local sixth-forms and colleges as well as go on to apprenticeships.”
