Careers & Guidance Day

The whole of Year 11 arrived to school on the last day of term one looking extremely smart and professional, albeit a little nervous too, ready to take part in their individual mock interviews with visiting employers from the Department  of Work and Pensions Schools’ Support Team.  For most of our students this was the first time they had ever had an interview before and despite their nerves, the feedback from our visiting employers was fantastic and we are so proud of how our students conducted themselves throughout the day. Just like a real interview, the students had to arrive promptly at their given time for their interview and answer questions relating to a generic customer service role position.  Each student received individual feedback from the employers which should really help them when it comes to taking part in real interviews in the next few months.

Additionally, running alongside the mock interviews were a variety of group work sessions which the students also took part in.  The sessions were delivered by Barclays Bank Lifeskills Team, University of Kent Outreach, National Citizenship Service and Kent Association of Training Organisations. Topics covered included sessions on email/online reputation, careers step ladder – researching careers, building resilience, CV writing and Apprenticeships.
The feedback from the students has been extremely positive:

“It was entertaining as well as informative”
“The information was new and helpful”
“The enthusiasm and energy has helped me see it all more positively”
“The interaction with us was very engaging”
We will continue to support the Year 11 students with their post-16 transition process throughout the remainder of the academic year.
