Lights, cameras, action!

Students at St Augustine Academy gained first-hand experience of the world of television media when
they were the subject of a news report by BBC Southeast Sport.

The weightlifting enrichment group were filmed and interviewed during an enrichment lesson by BBC reporter Juliette Parkin wand the item was aired on Monday 10th December on the Lunchtime show with a slightly shorter version in the early evening slot. (Available to view on BBC Southeast web site for those who missed it.)

Also in attendance was International weightlifter and Commonwealth games medallist, Owen Boxall, who now works for British weightlifting as a relationship manager and is very keen to develop a strong link with the Academy.

The film crew were in attendance for around 2 hours during which they filmed the St Augustine Academy students training from every angle!  They also conducted interviews with Principal, Mr Feldwick, special guest Owen Boxall and the Academy students themselves. Of particular interest to BBC Southeast Sport the was the fact that St Augustine has its own dedicated weightlifting room and how popular weightlifting is amongst our female students.

The Academy weightlifters are next in action on Saturday 15th December in an Open Competition at Pegasus Gymnastics club in Maidstone. Wish them luck!
