Year 8 students get a taste of university teaching

Three students from Kent University recently visited the Academy as part of an interactive First World War project that they are running with selected schools in the county.

Our year 8 History groups were the lucky recipients of this visit and their lessons were led by 3 graduates including one whose specialism is history.

The lessons took the students back to the outbreak of war and, working from contemporary eye-witness accounts, they discussed the reactions of ordinary people to the events that were happening once war had been declared.  They then wrote a letter or diary entry from the viewpoint of a new recruit to the Armed Forces or one of their relatives which incorporated the results of their discussion. This produced some very moving accounts which highlighted the worries and fears of a generation for whom life was about to change for ever.
