We will remember

Each year, the Academy takes great care to remember the sacrifice made by servicemen and women and civilians not just in World War 1, but in all conflicts since then. The British Royal Legion Poppy Appeal is always well supported by staff and students and this year, it was the responsibility of the Student Leadership team to take the poppies around the classrooms to collect donations for the iconic symbol of remembrance.

Paper poppy petals decorated the door and main desk in the Library, and in the Autism Resource Centre (ARC), they had a special commemoration. Mrs Kedge explained the  origins of  Remembrance Day to students and Connie (year 9) then read out a short piece entitled ‘Why do we wear poppies?’

The 2 minute silence – originally instigated by George V on 11th November 1919 – was observed throughout the Academy with students standing in classrooms in reflection.
