Christmas starts at the Academy

Last Thursday evening saw the official start to Christmas at St Augustine with the ever popular Christmas Fayre taking place at the Academy.

The canteen was packed out with 14 stalls run by local crafts people and 2 stalls – ‘Stockingfillas’ and Refreshments – run by students. The event was organised by Ms Lay and the Senior Student team who were also responsible for running the 6 games that had taken over the entrance foyer.

These games were run with all profits going to our Chapters’ charities which are Porchlight (helping vulnerable people and the homeless in Maidstone), Dandelion Time (Kent’s charity for children and their families fragmented by trauma, abuse and neglect) and Slideaway (bereavement support service to children and young people in West Kent). The games included water, shredded paper, hooking bags containing small presents and trying to throw ‘burger shaped’ dog toys into bins so a lot of hilarity was involved! There was also a raffle, kindly run by a parent, with prizes generously donated by parents and staff.
The monies raised are still being counted but an email received the following day from a stall holder summed up the atmosphere of the whole evening: ‘Thank you for a very well organised and enjoyable evening . Please keep me on your list for future events. Your pupils are very polite and helpful. A lovely school.’
