Maths Camp

Carroty Wood in Tonbridge was the venue for another of our very popular and hugely successful residential maths camps for year 11 students.

The students spent a total of 8 ½ hours on 5 key B grade topics over the course of the weekend, even starting at 8.00am on Saturday and Sunday.  The students took part in outdoor adventurous activities  which included hanging from, then moving across, high ropes and low ropes. Bushcraft skills also featured with fires being made from materials at hand and then being lit using traditional, Scout style methods!.  Several students overcame a number of fears by completing these challenges; especially trying to catch a bar whilst jumping off a wooden pole 5 metres in the air!

However, the main point of the camp was to increase the students’ mathematical skills and the success of this was reflected in some excellent test scores at the end of the day.  A fantastic but tiring weekend was enjoyed by all.  Thank you to all the staff and students who took part and gained so much from  the weekend.
