Students see into outer space!Posted on: 29th Jan 2020
The University of Kent brought their mobile astrodome to the Academy this week for a special event just for our year 7 students. The astrodome, which is one of the most sophisticated in the country, uses a high-definition digital projector to provide a fully immersive cinema experience which is used to explain concepts in space science and to explore the universe.
Similar to the large planetariums in several UK cities, the smaller astrodome can teach students about the characteristics of individual planets and give them an introduction to astronomy. Our students were prepared for the event with lots of interesting questions including how Saturn’s ice rings were formed and how they could find the North Star in the night sky.
