Sports successes continue...

Posted on: 24th Jan 2022

It has been a fantastic fortnight for the PE department where extra-curricular clubs are concerned, with our teams’ successes in both Football and Rugby fixtures.

Mr Challiss reports: “Following on from the magnificent successes of the boys Rugby team just over a week ago against Malling and Maplesden Noakes schools, on Tuesday 18th, a squad of year 7/8/9 girls, led by Mr Jones, travelled to Thomas Aveling School and returned victorious, having won 7-0!

Mr Jones has worked very hard with that group of girls since the beginning of the year and this showed as the 7-0 victory saw 6 different goalscorers: Izzy Sale, Olivia White, Lacey Shepherd (2), Ruby Sykes, Diya Maheshwaran and Sophie Muir. In the previous week, that same group of girls also finished 2nd in a School Girls Tournament with other Kent Schools. This has now been recorded within a league structure that should see more fixtures .

Thursday 20th was the Year 10 boys turn to play their Championship Final. Standing in the way of getting their hands on the cup were teams from Aylesford School and Cornwallis. Assisted by 4 year 9 boys, our lads got off to a great start against Aylesford in their first game. For the first half, the game was very competitive and looked very close until Archie Wells broke the deadlock just before half time with a solo try from 10m out. In the second half, Aylesford kept pushing, but our boys stayed resilient in defence and calm in attack which saw them put two more tries on Aylesford. The game was finished early as a few injuries to Aylesford’s players saw them without any back-up choices to allow the game to continue. The Academy won 19-0!

In the second game against Cornwallis, the boys looked as convincing as they did against Aylesford. Cornwallis started the scoring with a brilliant solo try from one of our ex-students, which went unconverted. Led by Captain Ahmed Abdulrahim, the boys regrouped and dug-in to reign dominant, winning this game 28-5 which gave them the trophy.

Please ensure you congratulate those mentioned and anyone else involved. Time and time again our students represent the school with great pride and honour and really set the example of what sportsmanship looks like.”
