Magic at the Marsh!

Posted on: 14th Oct 2022

On Thursday 13th October, the U14 girls football team made the long trip down to New Romney for a Kent C&S Trophy game against The Marsh Academy. The girls started brightly with Tally causing problem for The Marsh down the right, her crosses narrowly evading Sophie in the middle and Shemi at the far post. The girls from Maidstone continued to enjoy possession of the ball with some excellent passing football orchestrated from the defence by Emily and Tillie. St Augustine Academy would eventually open the scoring when Ruby played through Sophie who brilliantly chipped the Marsh keeper for a 1-0 lead. Just before half time SAA had the chance to make it two but unfortunately Ruby would drag the penalty narrowly wide.

The second half continued in the same manner but SAA were met with a Marsh goalkeeper who refused to be beaten. Ruby would be denied once again this time by the crossbar and later, the post. 1-0 is a dangerous score in football the longer the game goes on, do you go and get the second or defend what you have? As SAA pushed players forward for a corner to search for the second, The Marsh counter attacked well and the striker slotted the ball past Lucy for 1-1 with seven minutes to go. Determined not to be beaten, St Augustine pushed on in search of the winner. Tally was deprived once again by the goalkeeper when she went through 1 on 1.  With two minutes to go SAA would finally get the winner, Ruby’s superb cross was met powerfully by the head of Shemi leaving the keeper with no chance. A fantastic end to an excellent game. A trip to Fulston Manor awaits the girls in round 3.
