Election success for 2 of our students!

Posted on: 15th Dec 2023

Mr Vasudaven reports on an exciting experience for two of our students:

KYCC Election Success!

Thank you to everyone who helped out with the Kent Youth County Council elections a couple of weeks ago, and to everyone who encouraged students to cast their vote in line with upholding the 'British Value' of democracy. The organisers commented on our excellent voter turnout!

The results have just come in... (Drum roll...)

Two of our students have been elected as representatives for this year! Jack Thwaites and Isaac Newberry.

These two students will be working as youth leaders representing the views of all young people across Maidstone at County Hall, working with real members of Kent County Council to improve services in the county. Bearing in mind how many secondary schools we have in the local area, KYCC has five representatives across the whole borough and two of them are Year 8 students from St Augustine Academy! Definitely an achievement.

Yet more evidence that young people are not the problem in society, but the solution.
