Local charity helps Academy student
Remap is a local charity that for over 50 years has helped disabled people of all ages to live more independent lives. Their network of over 900 skilled volunteers across the country design and custom-make equipment free of charge. They help to improve quality of life and increase independence for disabled people of all ages, providing solutions to everyday problems when there is nothing commercially available.
They design and custom-make equipment for each individual because everyone’s needs are different. Their network of skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests for help every year and provide their service free of charge.
Recently one of our students needed their help for a custom made work surface that they could use in their Hospitality and Catering lessons. This was designed especially to fit on to their wheelchair which has made them independent thus able to enjoy their lesson even more. The Academy would like to return our thanks by raising money for the charity through a ‘Christmas jumper’ event at the end of term so that future students can also get the independence or equipment they so desperately need.
