GCSE Mathematics

Students follow the Edexcel GCSE course which has two tiers, Foundation and Higher. Examinations for both the Foundation and Higher Tiers are split into three papers:

•             Paper 1      Non-Calculator

•             Paper 2      Calculator

•             Paper 3      Calculator

All papers are out of a total of 80 marks and each lasts 1 hour 30 minutes.

Grades achievable on the papers are different:

Foundation Paper :  U - 5

Higher Paper:            U then 3 - 9

The ‘pass’ grade for GCSEs being Level 4 and above however most grammar school sixth forms except Grade 5s or higher for course involving mathematics.

Revision and Intervention

Maths intervention will run before school by invitation only. Groups for this will change each half term.

Carroty Wood will run in March. Students will be invited to attend this weekend.

Excellent revision resources include :

Corbettmaths.com

Mrbartonmaths.com

Mathsmadeeasy.co.uk

Mathsgenie.co.uk

When buying revision materials please make sure the Tier is correct for the course your child will be entered into.

Homework

All students receive personalised homework via the website Sparx.co.uk. Students have 1 hour of homework each week that is a mix of the learning in class and revision. Students should attempt all sessions and use the videos to help if they get stuck. Help with homework can be arranged with their class teacher if needed.

Attendance

Attendance is crucial factor in students making progress. Students who attend less than 90% of lessons are less likely to achieve their targeted grades.
