Girls U16’s French Kent Cup SAA 1-6 Westlands

St Augustine Academy’s football season kicked off on Wednesday 13th September as the U16 girls took on Westlands in the Kent Cup. The game started slowly with Westlands creating some early chances from set pieces. A quickly worked corner saw the ball lofted over the head of the SAA goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead. SAA began to create chances of their own and Sophie Muir’s tireless ruining was rewarded with a penalty which Olivia calmly slotted into the corner under the fully stretched Westlands keeper. Half time 1-1.

SAA started the second half brightly Olivia White forcing the Westlands keeper into some early saves. But Westlands would soon dominate with a barrage of attacks and SAA struggled to get out their half.  Some well taken goals and a spectacular long range strike into the top corner took the game away from SAA. This sealed a deserved win for the girls from Westlands.

Player of the Match - Sophie M: playing against girls a year above her and she more than held her own. Her tremendous running, strength and clever touches of the ball caused the Westlands defenders problems. They certainly knew they had been in a game. Well played Sophie.
