Year 7 visit the Tower of London

Posted on: 6th Dec 2023

On a frosty November morning we boarded a double decker and ventured to East London for a foray into the Historical Castle, Prison and Fortress, built by William the Conqueror nearly a 1000 years ago – The Tower of London.  Execution place of Anne Boleyn, plot line to many gory a story, serving the Crown as a zoo at one point and an armoury at others, and even as cell for the Crays back in the 50’s, this vast bastion of British History was the backdrop to this week’s Year 7 trip.

We had a fantastic time, with live performers and talks, hot chocolate in the warm, the changing of the guard… ‘but Miss are they really real soldiers’, ‘but Miss are their guns real’, ‘can I hug one?’, ‘what would happen if I got in their way, will they exterminate me’, ‘can I touch his hat’….. and also the jewel in the crown being the actual crown itself in the Crown Jewels!

All the students and staff were superstars, it was a long day with a lot of walking and Year 7 were beautifully behaved, with impeccable manners and a credit to parents and the Academy.  A wonderful and enriching, cultural experience which brought learning to life.

Below are some snippets of feedback from parents:

Savannah said is that she had the best day, she wouldn’t have changed a thing and it was fun throughout the whole day! She has never come home so full of beans before and she hasn’t stopped talking about it so for me it was a massive hit!

Eli had a great time yesterday and said everything was perfect.  I felt it was very well organised too.

Thank you for organising the trip. Richie and Lacey had a brilliant time with lots to talk about.

Evie had a brilliant time and you were correct about the hot chocolate and Crown Jewels being her favourite. Thank you very much for organising it and I’m glad it well.

In terms of feedback, nothing negative from my perspective. The information provided in advance was clear and the day/logistics went exactly as you suggested which is great.

Daisy had a lovely day, she has taken lots of photos of the day and said it’s the best trip she’s been on. Her favourite part of the day was visiting the Crown Jewels and has asked if we can return.  Was lovely to hear Daisy's enthusiasm in a trip that revolves around education.

Lenny has had an amazing day with brilliant feedback for you all he said from teachers great organisation of the trip to children’s behaviour.

Violet had a brilliant time on the top deck. She thought the coach was very fancy. She really enjoyed seeing the Crown Jewels and the different  talks. She’s had nothing but good things to say about the tip.  Well done for organising such a fab trip.
