Students learn how to save a life

Posted on: 1st Jul 2025

On Thursday 19th June students in Years 7 & 8, and those involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, received a special visit from our friends at St John Ambulance. The informative trainers spoke about the history of the organisation and went through lots of simple first aid tips and tricks. After receiving a crash-course in CPR (featuring a mass singalong of "I would walk 500 miles") it was time for everyone to get stuck in! Students rotated around three interactive 'stations' where they had a go at performing CPR on an adult, a child and a baby.

"It looked a bit scary at first but the paramedic talked me through everything. I now know what to do if I came across an emergency in the street" - Adam, Year 7

This visit was just the start of an exciting new collaboration between St Augustine Academy and the Maidstone branch of St John Ambulance. Fancy learning some child first aid at one of our upcoming school events? Watch this space!
