BackYear 8 PGL Trip
Posted on: 8th Oct 2025What a weekend we’ve had! Year 8 have returned from their PGL adventure full of stories, laughter, and memories that will last a lifetime.
Free time was a real highlight, the chance for the children to simply be kids. Impromptu football matches sprang up, games unfolded across the ‘parade square’, and there were countless cups of tea and chats under the September sun. Evenings brought sweet (and sweaty!) torchlit storytelling, friendships cemented, and a sense of freedom that’s rare in their busy day-to-day lives.
Meals were another source of great joy, at least for the students! The adults may not be missing PGL’s particular take on catering, but the pupils loved it, especially the endless variations of chips. Chips in every form imaginable may well be the culinary memory of the week!
The bonfire was magical: singing, laughter, and toasted s’mores under the stars. The weather was glorious, adding to the sense of adventure. Each day brought “firsts” for so many abseiling, climbing, survivor challenges, Jacob’s Ladder, archery, and the thrill of the zip wire. Barriers were broken, fears were faced, and the joy of achievement was written all over their faces.
We had barely any tears and not a single argument , just children enjoying themselves, supporting each other, and stepping bravely into new experiences. With limited screen time and maximum fresh air, they rediscovered what freedom really feels like.
Of course, no trip is complete without its quirky highlights – Miss Michell’s pop-up “hair salon” was in full swing, while Mr Ball joined us with his little girl to see the fun first-hand. And on the journey home, spirits were kept sky-high thanks to the amazing Mr Langford, who led the most unforgettable coach sing-song – a fitting finale to a magical week.
To every student who embraced the challenge: thank you. To every member of staff who gave their time, energy, and care – thank you. A very special mention must go to Mrs James, our incredible Head of Year 8, and Mrs Cochrane, the ever-supportive Y8 Pastoral Support Officer. We are deeply grateful to Ms Rees, our calm and caring DSL, and to Ms Bancroft, our brilliant medic extraordinaire, who kept everyone safe and well. Thanks also to Ms Jackson, our dedicated Head of Y7, and the superb Dr Harrison, our Assistant Principal, whose energy never flagged. Finally, we can’t forget the unforgettable comedy duo of Mr Langford and Mr Dewey, who brought fun, laughter, and music throughout the trip. Thank you all for giving up your own free time and precious family time to make this adventure possible.
