We will remember

The Academy will be observing the 2 minute silence at 11am on Wednesday 11th as a mark of respect for Remembrance Day. Student leaders have been taking round collecting boxes for students to give a donation for a poppy.

The Academy also has 3 moving displays made by students that commemorate the 'Lest we forget' aspect of the event. In honour of Remembrance Day, to remember those that gave their lives in the First World War, year 8 created a poppy display in their hub area. Students wrote special messages of remembrance on to the poppies before displaying them to create a big poppy display. Year 8 mentees felt it was an important event, a core part of our British values and society to show our respect for those that fought and died so that we could have the education and freedoms that we have today.

The Academy has several students who are members of the various cadet forces in Maidstone and one who came to school in their uniform is shown below. Chloe has been a member of the Air Training Corps for about a year and wanted to wear her uniform on Wednesday as a way of drawing people's attention to the significance of the day. Her great- grandad was in the Royal Artillery in the Royal East Kent Regiment and Chloe has his medals - the North African Campaign Star, TA efficiency medal and the Africa Star - which she looks after and keeps polished.
